Not Enough Bone Under the Sinus? That's No Longer a Reason to Refer.
An atrophic posterior maxilla with too little vertical height is one of the most common challenges in implant dentistry. Sinus bone grafting is a predictable solution that allows implant placement with high success rates. This workshop teaches both routes to it, crestal and lateral, and what to do when a case doesn't go to plan.
Day 1: Crestal Approach
Osseodensification with the Versah protocol: preserve and expand bone, increase implant stability and graft the sinus from the crest.
Day 2: Lateral Window
Indications, anatomy, CBCT planning and a step-by-step lateral window protocol, from access to graft to closure.
Complications, Including Complete Tears
Prevent, recognize and manage intraoperative, early and late complications, including a complete membrane tear.
You Place Implants. The Posterior Maxilla Is Where You Stop.
For most implant dentists, the limit isn't skill. It's not having a predictable protocol for each approach, and not knowing exactly what to do if the membrane tears. Two days with two periodontists, with real hands-on practice, changes that.
If any of these hit home, this workshop is for you:
- You refer out posterior maxillary cases because of limited bone height
- You aren't sure when to choose a crestal or a lateral window approach
- A membrane perforation, or a complete tear, is your biggest fear
- You want to get more stability from soft maxillary bone
- You aren't sure which graft material or growth factor to use
- You want a step-by-step protocol you can trust
From “I'll Refer This One” to “I Can Graft This Sinus.”
Before the Workshop
- Short implants or referrals for every atrophic posterior maxilla
- No clear rule for crestal vs. lateral
- Unsure how to read the sinus on a CBCT
- No plan for a perforation or a complete tear
- No one to call when a case goes wrong
After the Workshop
- Case classification that tells you which approach to use
- Hands-on experience with both crestal and lateral techniques
- A step-by-step protocol, with the do's and don'ts
- A plan for every complication, including complete tears
- A year of WhatsApp access to two board-certified periodontists
Scientific & Clinical Curriculum
Two days, two approaches, one complete sinus grafting protocol.
Crestal Approach With Osseodensification (Versah Protocol)
- Biomechanical, histological and long-term clinical evidence of osseodensification
- Preserving, expanding and strengthening bone in a controlled way
- Compaction autografting and site optimization to increase implant stability
- Sub-crestal sinus autografting (crestal sinus lift)
- Densify After Cut (DAC) protocol and the densification guide for any implant system
- Lateral ridge expansion, immediate placement with osseodensification, guided expansion graft (2-stage) and the universal guided surgery protocol
- Implant stability for early and immediate loading
- Risk assessment and avoiding complications
Lateral Window Approach & Complications
- Case classification and the rationale for sinus bone grafting
- Anatomic principles and CBCT evaluation for treatment planning
- Biology of wound healing in sinus grafts
- Graft materials: autografts, allografts, xenografts and alloplasts
- Growth factors: PRF, PRGF, PRP, rhPDGF and rhBMP-2
- Indications and step-by-step protocol: lateral vs. crestal
- Septa, thickened membranes, polyps and mucous retention cysts
- Intraoperative, early and late complications, including complete membrane tears
By the End of This Workshop, You Will Be Able To:
- Classify sinus cases and choose between a crestal and a lateral window approach
- Evaluate the sinus on 3D imaging and plan sinus bone grafting
- Use osseodensification to optimize the site, increase implant stability and graft the sinus from the crest
- Perform a lateral window sinus augmentation step by step
- Select graft materials and growth factors based on the evidence
- Prevent, recognize and manage complications, including a complete membrane tear
The Kind of Cases You'll Be Ready to Treat
A lateral window opened to the sinus membrane, and an implant placed in a grafted posterior maxilla.

You Won't Just Watch It. You'll Do It, With a Periodontist Beside You.
Both days include hands-on training on simulation models and animal jaws. You'll practice osseodensification and crestal sinus augmentation on Day 1, then lateral window access, membrane elevation, grafting and complication management on Day 2, while two board-certified periodontists coach your technique in real time. To keep that coaching personal, seating is intentionally limited.
Why it matters: most sinus complications come down to details: reading the anatomy, the access, and how the membrane is handled. Those are learned with your hands, not from slides.

Clinical clip: lateral window sinus augmentation (no narration).
The Course Ends Saturday. Your Access to the Faculty Doesn't.
Every participant gets 1 year of direct WhatsApp access to Dr. Behmanesh and Dr. Kiarash. Send a CBCT before your next sinus case, ask a question after a surgery, or get help with a complication, from the same periodontists who taught you.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who is this workshop designed for?
General dentists and implant dentists, including AAID members, who place implants and want to treat the atrophic posterior maxilla themselves instead of referring sinus cases out.
Do I need implant surgery experience?
Yes. The workshop is designed for dentists who already place implants. If you're new to implant surgery, start with the Guided Implant Surgery Workshop.
How are the two days different?
Day 1 covers the crestal approach with the Versah osseodensification protocol: compaction autografting, site optimization and sub-crestal sinus autografting. Day 2 covers the lateral window approach and the management of complications, including complete sinus membrane tears.
What will I practice hands-on?
Both approaches, on simulation models and animal jaws and bone specimens: osseodensification drilling and crestal sinus augmentation on Day 1, lateral window access, membrane elevation, grafting and complication management on Day 2.
Are clinical results guaranteed?
No course can guarantee clinical outcomes. The workshop gives you a structured protocol, supervised hands-on practice and a year of direct access to the faculty. Your results depend on case selection, practice and applying the protocol carefully in your own patients.
How are the 16 CE hours split?
8 hours of didactic lecture and 8 hours of hands-on practicum. Credits are AGD PACE recognized. AAID members should confirm with AAID how they apply to their credentialing requirements.
Where is the workshop held?
In the DMV, in Northern Virginia, on Friday and Saturday, May 21–22, 2027. The full venue name, address and directions are in the Venue section of this page.
Is this workshop convenient for dentists in Maryland and Washington, DC?

What is the WhatsApp access?
For one year after the workshop, you can message your instructors directly to review a CBCT before a sinus case, ask questions after a surgery, or get guidance on a complication.
Is this workshop included in Implant Mentorship?
It is included in Implant Mentorship Plus. It is not part of the standard Implant Mentorship program.
What is the refund policy?
A 50% refund is available up to 31 days before the course start date (April 20, 2027). No refund is issued within 30 days of the course.
Stop Referring Out the Posterior Maxilla
With the right protocol, sinus grafting is predictable. Spend two days with two board-certified periodontists, practice both approaches with your own hands, and keep them on call for a year.
Limited seats available. Register early to secure your spot.
